FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind. During this state of mind, our subconscious mind is more open and receptive to suggestions that are given to facilitate the changes that an individual wants to change. We drift in and out of this state of mind throughout the day. Hypnosis has also been referred to as guided imagery.
How does hypnotherapy or guided imagery work?
Under hypnosis all outside distractions are eliminated and your attention is focused on my voice. When you are hypnotized, you are not asleep or unconscious. Everything you have ever learned is stored in your subconscious mind along with unwanted habits. Hypnosis gives the subconscious mind suggestions for change or improvement. Entering a state of deep relaxation and connecting with the subconscious allows hypnotic suggestions about your goals to be taken in much more deeply. During hypnosis you become aware of your present behavioral patterns and with my assistance you adopt new, desired and beneficial ones Success depends on the motivation of the client and the commitment to hypnosis a person is willing to make. Some goals are reached immediately; others take more reinforcement. Each individual is different.
What is the subconscious mind?
The conscious mind, the mind you are conscious of, is the critical part of your mind and only constitutes 10% of who you are. The subconscious mind is the part that directs your conduct through the habits and emotional desires acquired from the influences of your environment, before you were old enough to reject harmful ideas and concepts. Through proper use of autosuggestion during the hypnotic state you reprogram the subconscious mind to make decisions favorable for your well-being.
How does it feel to be hypnotized?
Hypnosis is a very pleasant feeling of complete mental and physical relaxation. Most people say they feel very relaxed and peaceful yet still aware of what is going on around them. At times, clients feel heavy and others feel they are floating. Each individual is different; however, the consensus is it is an enjoyable experience.
What is hypnosis used for?
Just about anything… fears & phobias, pain management, to quit smoking, weight issues, sleep challenges including insomnia, stress management, increased motivation, improve confidence and self- esteem, improving performance professionally or athletically and much more.
Will hypnotherapy work for me?
Typically, anyone can participate in hypnotherapy, however, the client needs to be willing to participate. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and no one can be induced into a hypnotic state against his or her will. You allow yourself to be guided into hypnosis and you remain in control at all times. You always know what is happening and you can come out at any time by opening your eyes.
Will I remember everything afterwards?
Everyone is different. Some clients will remember the entire session, whereas others will remember parts or bits and pieces. If the subconscious mind wants you to remember, you will remember those specific thoughts in your session. Some clients remember different points days later.
What should I expect during a session?
Your hypnotherapist will greet you and have you complete a client intake form. This form gives basic information related to the change you are seeking, the challenges you would like to overcome or the habits you would like to change. Once that is completed your hypnotherapist will explain what hypnosis is and what to expect. Your session will be customized to fit your needs and your specific goals. A hypnotherapy session is typically 60-90 minutes. Once the session is complete your hypnotherapist will debrief on what you may have experienced and answer any questions.
Do I need to be in person for a hypnotherapy session?
No, as a hypnotherapist we can facilitate the guided imagery session online through a video conference with just as effective results as in person.
What should I do to prepare for my session?
We recommend not drinking caffeine or anything that may make it difficult for you to relax during your session. No other preparation required.
